LON (Lengthening Over Nail)
In the LON method, a combination of techniques is used. This involves inserting a nail into the bone (intramedullary nail) and attaching an external fixator to the outside of the bone. The intramedullary nail doesn't bear weight during the lengthening phase; its main role is to guide the bone's straight-line extension. On the other hand, the external fixator serves a dual purpose by providing both support for the bone's weight and facilitating the lengthening process.Once the prescribed lengthening period concludes, the external fixator is removed through a surgical procedure. This marks the end of the treatment and allows for the final stages of healing and consolidation of the lengthened bone.
